The Armored Truck Job

Four masked outlaws, one armored truck, and a highway full of cops who just learned what 'no' means.

The Armored Truck Job

The Armored Truck Job is a highway heist in Payday 2 in which the four-man crew—Hoxton, Wolf, Dalton, and Chains—intercepts a cash-laden armored truck in full transit and lifts its contents before a wall of police and SWAT forces can seal them in. It sits among the game's earlier heists, serving as a showcase for the series' signature vehicle chaos and the tight, time-pressured extraction loop that defines the Payday formula.

Rather than a static building to breach, the entire map is a moving corridor of asphalt, barriers, and pursuing cruisers. The crew must coordinate a chase, disable the truck, and grab the cash under fire while the police response escalates around them. It is a heist that rewards aggressive vehicle play, quick decision-making, and clean teamwork more than any amount of raw firepower.

Lore & Background

The crew's reputation in the city's underworld had grown loud enough that a mid-level transport company decided to move a large cash shipment through a stretch of highway they thought was quiet. They were wrong. Hoxton had the route mapped, Wolf had the muscle, Dalton had the plan for the vehicle chase, and Chains had the nerve to actually pull the trigger. The job was simple on paper: intercept, open, grab, vanish. In practice it meant turning a four-lane highway into a war zone and outrunning the entire precinct.

What made the Armored Truck Job different from the warehouse and bank heists the crew had already pulled was the speed. There was no time to set up, no secondary entry to scout. The truck was a moving target, the police were already rolling, and the extraction window was a countdown ticking over the radio. The crew had to be in the right lane, the right vehicle, and the right frame of mind all at once.

In the broader Payday 2 narrative, the job is another brick in the wall of the crew's escalating notoriety. Every heist they complete draws more heat from the police, more interest from the criminal underworld, and more pressure on the group to keep moving before the net closes. The Armored Truck Job is a reminder that for these four, the road is as much a weapon as a getaway route.

In Their Own Story

The highway was empty except for the armored truck, its headlights cutting a white wedge through the evening haze. Dalton sat in the driver's seat of a stolen sedan, engine idling, and tapped the dash twice. "Three, two, one—" Wolf was already on the shoulder, shotgun across his knees, mask pulled low. Hoxton's voice crackled over the comms: "Cops are twenty klicks back. You've got maybe four minutes before they flood this stretch."

The truck rounded the bend. Chains was in the passenger seat of a pickup, rifle resting on the window frame, and he didn't even flinch as the sedan shot out and slammed the armored vehicle's side. Glass shattered. The truck fishtailed, tires screaming. Wolf was out of the car before it stopped, boots on asphalt, shotgun barking twice into the driver's window. The door hung open. The cash bags sat there, stupid and bright under the streetlights.

Behind them, the first cruisers were already peeling around the overpass, sirens wailing a flat, angry note. Chains grabbed two bags, tossed them into the back of the pickup, and rolled the window back down. "Drive, Dalton. Drive like you owe them money."

They did.

Reader's Guide

The Armored Truck Job takes place on a multi-lane highway flanked by concrete barriers, guard rails, and scattered traffic cones. The armored truck drives a set route while patrol cars and SWAT vehicles pursue alongside and behind it. Your crew spawns in one or more vehicles and must intercept the truck before it reaches the extraction zone.

Primary objective: stop the armored truck (by ramming, shooting its tires, or sustained fire) and collect the cash bags that spill or are accessible from the open cargo area. Secondary: survive the escalating police response and reach the extraction point before the timer expires.

Enemy AI: patrol officers fire from and around their vehicles; SWAT units deploy on foot and from armored cars. Helicopters may appear on higher difficulties. Police vehicles actively try to box you in or ram your car.

Layout quirks: the highway is narrow, with limited cover. Barriers can be used to funnel enemies, but they also trap you. Ramps and sharp curves make vehicle control critical.

Community-optimal strategies: assign one player to stay in a vehicle and chase/ram the truck while the others dismount to provide suppressive fire. Use the barriers to create a choke point where the truck is forced to slow. Keep at least one vehicle mobile for the extraction run. On higher difficulties, prioritize eliminating SWAT vehicles early to reduce the number of pursuers. Communication is essential—call out which lane the truck is in and which cops are flanking.
